Steven Gerrard takes his post as Rangers manager on Friday and needs to try add some real experience to his new side if they are to improve next season.

The Light Blues ended the campaign third in the league table after a turbulent time, but need to try at least overtake Aberdeen into second next year and close the 12-point cap to champions Celtic.

There are a number of players currently in the Gers squad that have potential to be a success under Gerrard, but there surely has to be some investment this summer.

One man that should crop up on their radar is Middlesbrough captain Grant Leadbitter, who would be the perfect addition at Ibrox if it could happen.

The Scottish giants should consider plotting a move for the all-action midfielder and hijackig reported entered in him.

News outlet TEAMtalk reports that Boro are willing to sell the 32-year-old in the summer window and that Sunderland are keen, as they prepare for life in League One.

It is understood that Boro are prepared to offload him on a “minimal fee” and he should be someone that crops up onto the radar of Rangers.

Leadbitter is a real leader on the pitch that would help galvanise the Gers squad and he showed this term in the Championship he can still cut it at a decent level, making 34 appearances across all competitions.

The English pass master is renowned for his tough tackling and will also chip in with a few goals a season.

Rangers are crying out for someone of his talent to help boss games from the centre of the park and Gerrard should look to blow Sunderland out of the water by offering him a chance in Scotland.
