Tottenham are reportedly in the hunt to sign West Brom centre-back Ahmed Hegazi in the summer transfer window.

ESPN has reported that Spurs, West Ham and Leicester are eyeing up the 27-year-old Egypt international, who only signed a permanent deal at The Hawthorns in January.

It is understood that Hegazi is on a shortlist of names that Spurs have to replace Toby Alderweireld in the summer and if Mauricio Pochettino was to move for the Baggies man to replace the Belgian, he would without doubt be making his worst mistake in his spell at the club.

Hegazi’s form has flattered to deceive and it’s strange to see why so many pundits and commentators have thought he has been one of best players at The Hawthorns this season.

He scored on his West Brom debut with a towering header against Bournemouth and his initial rock-solid displays quickly earned him the status of being a cult hero in the making.

However his form drastically declined and he has played a major role in West Brom’s relegation.

The former El Ahly and Fiorentina colossus, who stands at 6ft 3in tall according to transfermarkt, really struggles to maintain defensive discipline and gives away an unforgivable amount of stupid fouls.

He rushes out of the back-line all too easily and has been completely up-staged by team-mate Craig Dawson in the last few weeks of the season when he was shifted to partner him in a central role.

If anything Spurs should be looking to sign Jonny Evans instead of Hegazi, but even he fails to come anywhere near matching the quality of Alderweireld.

Pochettino really has to get Alderweireld’s replacement spot on.

Hegazi is not, and never will be, the answer.
