Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur is the most-likely player to join Celtic next, according to Football Whispers.

The Daily Mail has previously reported that Rangers are in the hunt to sign McArthur, who according to statistics website Spotrac earns £50,000-a-week on his deal at Selhurst Park.

The Scotland international is a boyhood Gers fan, but it seems that he is more likely to wind up at Celtic Park in the summer transfer window than Ibrox.

Football Whispers gathers transfer rumours from across the world and calculates the chances of them coming to true. The football site rates McArthur’s chances of moving to Parkhead as 3.3 out of 5. The higher the score out of five, the more chance there is of that player joining said club.

OPINION

McArthur would be a brilliant signing for any club in Scotland, but there’s little chance that he would ditch his high wages and first-team role at Crystal Palace in order to move north of the border and play for the rivals of the team he supports. McArthur has been in brilliant form at Selhurst this season. He scored seven goals in 35 appearances across all competitions as Roy Hodsgson’s men somehow avoided relegation from the Premier League despite suffering the worst start to a campaign in English top-flight history. Celtic fans believe that their central midfield options are perhaps their strongest area with Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham being two of the best and most consistent players in the last year. McArthur would be a brilliant addition despite this, but given his status at Palace and support for Rangers, it’s hard to see how this move could come about.
