Frank Lampard has suggested in the wake of Tottenham’s defeat to West Brom that they may need to make a couple of elite signings in the summer transfer window.

Spurs slipped to a 1-0 away loss against the Baggies on Saturday in the Premier League and it means they still have work to do in the race for the top four.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were beaten by a late Jake Livermore goal and have just one victory in their last five games across all competitions.

Chelsea legend and pundit Lampard still expects Spurs to end up in the top four following their mini blip, but feels that the North London club could need some investment to improve ahead of next season.

“They (Spurs) should come fourth, but from a very promising looking season they have slightly fizzled. They have lost important games and they’ll be disappointed,” Lampard said on BBC One programme Match of the Day.

“It looks like maybe we talk about them a lot with their squad and they have to keep what they’ve got, but maybe need a couple of big additions just to freshen things up again.”

OPINION

Spurs’ season is coming to a disappointing end, but as long as they secure a top four finish then it should not all be seen as doom and gloom. They have established themselves as regulars in the top four of the Premier League and are becoming a leading side in England. There was also considerable progress in the Champions League and are beginning to look like a team that belong on the European stage. Spurs do have a crucial summer transfer window ahead of them and should look to keep hold of as many star players as they can. Lampard has hit the nail on the head that they also need a couple of top signings and another striker to support Harry Kane should be near the top of their wishlist. The striker is one of the players that appears to be running out of gas in the closing stages of the season and they need to bolster up their squad.
