Liverpool and Chelsea have both tabled ‘unconvincing’ offers for Real Madrid and Wales superstar Gareth Bale, but the 28-year-old attacker would only quit the Bernabeu if he can return to Tottenham, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish news outlet claims that Bale wants to leave Madrid this summer and has told president Florentino Perez that the only team he would join is his former club Spurs.

It is understood that the elite attacker, who according to the Guardian earns £350,000-a-week and has a £1billion buy-out clause, could also be wanted by Manchester United.

OPINION

Liverpool would be an unstoppable force if they were to sign Bale, but it really does not seem that it is likely to happen any time soon. If the Reds were to make a move for the Wales international, then surely Madrid would want Mohamed Salah and that could only move to unsettle the Egyptian goal machine – which is the last thing Jurgen Klopp will want. Bale has been consistently linked with a move back to the Premier League after a couple of sub-par seasons in Spain. This term, the ex-Southampton star has made just 27 appearances across all competitions due to injury and there is a chance that Zinedine Zidane will want to cash in on him for someone who is more reliable to play ever week. Bale would still be an instant hit at Anfield, Stamford Bridge or wherever he eventually ends up. Will he be on  the move this summer? Surely a defeat in the Champions League final will see him pack his bags.
