Leeds United have been given a transfer ultimatum over the potential signing of Jerry Mbakogu from Serie B side Carpi and fans are demanding the club end their interest in the forward on social media.

The Whites have reportedly been in the hunt for the 25-year-old for some time but according to the club president of the Italian outfit, who was quoted in the Yorkshire Evening Post, they have until the June 30 to push through a transfer, and believes that a move is a near-certainty.

Following Mabakogu’s granting of Italian citizenship, the Nigerian born striker’s move was thought to have taken a step forward, as it paved the way for a smoother transfer.

However after scoring just eight goals in 28 games, it would seem that the 25-year-old is not a going to be an instant hit as supporters have questioned his credentials in attack.

The Serie B side have endured an average campaign this season, with the player himself hardly ripping the league apart.

There were fans wanting the club to “pull the plug” on the deal now, while another queried the links between the Leeds owner, Andrea Radrizzani to Football Capital, who currently represent Mbakogu.

With a number of signings under Victor Orta not exactly going down well, it will be interesting to see how the Nigerian-born ace does at Elland Road or whether he will be another flop from the Spaniard.

Here is a selection of reactions on Twitter from Leeds fans reacting to the massive revelation:
