Everton face battle with PL big-boys for Vagnomen

|

Everton have a battle on their hands in their pursuit of Hamburg defender Josha Vagnomen, according to ESPN.

The report states that the Toffees are keen on the versatile enforcer, who can play either in the right-back position or as a left-back, but Chelsea and Arsenal are also in the hunt, along with a number of teams from the Bundesliga.

At just 17, Vagnomen, who stands at 6’1″ (source: Transfermarkt) is attracting interest after displays for the German U17 youth team and is out of contract this summer despite reportedly being offered a new deal to remain at Hamburg.

Good move for Everton?

Absolutely. The youngster is already earning rave reviews after his displays in the German national youth team, where he was a huge part of their U17 World Cup involvement until they were knocked out by Brazil.

It might be a move for the future but with much of the Toffees squad closer to the end of their careers rather than their beginning, it is a good start to building the next generation of stars who will entertain the Goodison Park faithful for years to come.

Likely to happen?

With Chelsea and Arsenal amongst the growing list of names, it is going to be a tough one to pull off.

However, under Farhad Moshiri, the Toffees have their finances and if they want to show their fans that they are wanting to compete with the big-boys of the footballing world they can prove they mean business by pulling out all the stops on this one.

What’s more, with Leighton Baines looking like he will be on his way out this summer, Vagnomen is the type of player the Blues will need.
