Rangers are reportedly close to a deal to make Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard their next manager, and fans have taken to Twitter to react with delight at the news.

As reported by The Sun, Rangers director of football Mark Allen is leading the club’s delegation in the ongoing talks, with a deal edging closer to completion.

The newspaper claim that Gerrard is unfazed by the size of the task at hand at Ibrox, with the former Liverpool star possessing no experience of senior football management.

The 37-year-old has spent the last season as head coach of the Reds’ Under 18 side, and taking a job at a club like Rangers would be a massive step up for him.

Rangers chairman Dave King was spotted at Anfield to watch Liverpool’s 5-2 win over Roma in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday, with Gerrard also in attendance as a pundit for BT Sport.

Fans have now taken to Twitter to react to the news, and while there were many who believe the 114-cap England international is the wrong man for the job, there are many supporters who are buzzing at the idea.
