Leeds United are in talks with Premier League club Swansea City about a swoop for defender Kyle Bartley, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The regional newspaper claims that the Whites are in negotiations with the Swans for the 26-year-old and want to wrap up a summer deal shortly after the Championship season finishes.

It is understood that an exit is on the cards for the centre-back if Swansea win their battle against relegation in the top flight, with the club then willing to listen to bids.

The report details that if they dropped down into the Championship then staying at the Liberty Stadium would be far more likely.

Leeds are keen to re-sign Bartley after he enjoyed a season-long loan spell at Elland Road in the 2016/17 campaign.

The English defensive powerhouse is open to a return to the Yorkshire giants are struggling to cement his place in the Swansea team.

Good move for Leeds?

Bartley would be an exceptional signing for Leeds, but one that should have happened last summer.

The no-nonsense defender proved his worth on loan when he was a mainstay in the side and next year can play a huge role in another promotion attempt.

The Whites have been defensively vulnerable all campaign and his partnership with Pontus Jansson would be a formidable one if reunited next year.

Likely to happen?

This deal really appear to depend on Swansea’s fight for survival and if they stay up then expect Bartley to return to Yorkshire.

The Swans are just a point outside of the drop zone and Leeds fans may be cheering them on for the remaining fixtures.
