Wolves are lining up a move to sign Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Championship title winners are set to tabled a £20million bid for the Wales international.

It is understood that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side want to add some proven Premier League talents ahead of their return to the top flight next season and the 28-year-old tops their summer wishlist.

The report details that the central midfielder could be tempted to make the switch to Molineux in the next campaign, with his current side in serious relegation trouble.

Stoke may reportedly be grateful to offload the Welshamn due to his high wages and they could be playing Championship football next season.

Allen is a pass master that is renowned for his brilliant technical ability and is exceptional in possession.

Good move for Wolves?

Wolves’ current squad certainly looks equipped to compete in the Premier League next season, but adding a few proven stars will massively bolster their chances.

Allen has been one of the outstanding individuals in a struggling Stoke team this season and would be a top signing for them.

He has contributed offensively with four goals and seven assists across all competitions this season, while the ex-Liverpool midfielder also does all the defensive work too.

The deep-lying playmaker has a tremendous work-rate that is almost unparalleled in the Premier League and would improve their options in Wolves’ midfield.

Likely to happen?

Wolves look set to reinforce their squad ahead of next year and Allen ticks a lot of the boxes in terms of experience.

It is unclear if Stoke will definitely be willing to let one of their star players leave the club, but all may become a lot clearer if they do suffer a likely relegation.
