Rangers are showing interest in a summer swoop for Rotherham United midfielder Will Vaulks, according to the Daily Mail

The newspaper claim that Rangers are looking to strengthen their midfield on a tight budget this summer, and the 24-year-old has impressed with his good form for League One side Rotherham.

The Mail report that Vaulks is attracting interest from division leaders Wigan as well as Championship outfit Sheffield United, with the midfielder having one year left on his deal.

It is said that Vaulks wants to wait until the end of the campaign to discuss his future, with Rotherham on the verge of a place in the League One play-offs, currently sitting in fourth spot.

Good move for Rangers?

There is no doubt that Vaulks is a good player, having scored five goals and laid on five assists for Rotherham this season, but you would think that Rangers need to aim a little higher if they are to catch Celtic next season.

Vaulks would probably be a good squad addition at Ibrox, but is he going to help the Gers challenge Celtic, who have a midfield awash with full internationals?

Rangers may be looking to boost their midfield on a budget, but surely they know that money needs to be spent this summer after such a disastrous season.

Ambition needs to be shown, especially after their pounding in the Old Firm game at the weekend, and moving for Vaulks is not going to show much of that.

Likely to happen?

It is hard to say at this point.

Sheffield United are also interested, and you would think that a move up a level to the Championship is most likely.
