Tottenham Hotspur could face a couple of defensive departures this summer with Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose both on the verge of potential exits.

In the case of Rose, the England international has looked on the way out of Tottenham ever since his explosive interview last summer in which he publicly criticised the club and paved the way for a move back up north.

While that move did not materialise at the end of the summer window, or indeed during the January window, there is still the feeling that Rose has burned his bridges with the club.

With the end of the season approaching, now looks like the time for Rose to end his 11-year association with Spurs and ply his trade elsewhere.

Where that will be is unknown, but if he does go, who could Tottenham turn to as a replacement?

One potential successor is Celtic star Kieran Tierney, who has emerged as one of the country’s best left-backs in the last season or so, and is attracting attention from Manchester United.

As reported by the Mirror, the Red Devils are intensifying their interest in the 20-year-old, who they believe they will be able to lure to Old Trafford for around £10million.

If this report is true, and Tierney would be available for around £10million, then a Tottenham swoop for the Scotland international is a no-brainer.

The flyer has proved beyond all doubt this season that he can mix it with the best, performing on the biggest stage of them all as he came up against opponents such as Arjen Robben in the Champions League.

Tierney is just 20 years old, and yet he has captained Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic on several occasions, and was even handed the armband for Scotland on just his ninth cap, a 1-0 loss to the Netherlands last November.

This is a seriously impressive young player being tipped for great things, and for him to be available at such a cheap price, in a position which needs strengthening, all points towards the need for Tottenham to swoop this summer.
