Rangers have been handed a boost with the news that goal machine Josh Windass is fit to face Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-finals this weekend.

As confirmed by Graeme Murty in the pre-match press conference, Windass is set to return from injury alongside Ross McCrorie, who was withdrawn from the action against Dundee last weekend.

And, while the temptation will no doubt be too reinstate Windass to the starting lineup for the Old Firm clash, Murty must resist and leave him on the bench this Sunday.

The introduction of Kenny Miller last week against Dundee worked really nicely, with the veteran opening the scoring to set Rangers on their way to a 4-0 victory.

Miller provided a nice foil to Alfredo Morelos as he slotted in nicely behind the Colombian, and his presence gave the Rangers attacking quartet a bit more balance.

Windass’ presence means that Rangers have three natural wingers playing with Morelos in front of them, and that sometimes sees them lacking options down the middle.

While he did play well in the last Old Firm and opened the scoring for Rangers, the fact is that the Light Blues ended up losing that match, and Murty must try something slightly different this time around.

Miller’s experience is another bonus, with the veteran striker sure to pose problems to this Celtic defence which has shown several deficiencies this season.

Having Windass on the bench also helps provide Murty with a brilliant option to come on later in the game provide a different option, or to just run Celtic ragged if that is required.

All in all it is a decision which makes sense for Murty, and he must be bold and leave his 17-goal star on the bench.
