Davie Provan claimed that Celtic made a big mistake by signing Charly Musonda in January and it’s hard to see how the former Hoops midfielder is wrong.

The 21-year-old wide forward, who can also play as an attacking midfielder, joined the Hoops on an 18 month loan, as reported by the BBC, from Chelsea in January.

Musonda needed to leave Chelsea in order to get first-team football as he was getting no opportunities at Stamford Bridge.

Since arriving in Scotland, the winger has only started three games and has only played four minutes of Celtic’s last six league games.

Based on this Provan revealed in his column for the Scottish Sun, that he thought signing Musonda now looked like a big mistake.

“Back in January, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers described the loan signing of Charly Musonda as a big signing for us,” stated Provan in his column for the newspaper.

“Rodgers also revealed Celtic had beaten two dozen other clubs for the player’s signature, either way, the Chelsea player already looks like a big mistake.

“Musonda left Chelsea because he wasn’t getting first-team football but has made just three starts for the Hoops.

“Brendan reckons we’ll see the best of the 21-year-old next season, I’ll be surprised if he’s still in Glasgow by then.”

Provan is right to suggest that Musonda’s best won’t be seen in Glasgow, as Rodgers has done nothing but waste his talents so far.

The winger is by no means the finished product, but given his pace and silky skills, he would be an asset to the Hoops’ first-team.

Musonda has been able to show glimpses of his talent at Parkhead, but has also displayed signs that he needs to adapt to the league.

However he’s not going to be able to learn how to cope with the demands of the Scottish Premier League sat on the bench, and Rodgers has effectively wasted him ever since he arrived in Scotland.

While the 21-year-old does have a significant amount of time left on his loan deal Rodgers has to start using him better,as if he continues not to feature him, Musonda’s arrival at Parkhead would have been a waste of the club’s time as well as the player’s.
