Jim Duffy heaped praise on Brendan Rodgers and revealed that he believes the Celtic boss deserves to be named Scotland’s Manager of the Year.

The former Hoops defender, who currently manages Greenock Morton, suggested that Rodgers deserved the honour as his side were currently on course to have another treble-winning season.

“I believe there’s real depth, with quality coaches in all divisions, not just the top level where Rodgers is a class apart,” wrote Duffy in his column for the Scottish Sun.

“I believe Brendan has to get the top accolade, regardless of what people will say about superior resources and quality of squad.

“Celtic’s consistency in his time there has been sensational, even though I accept they’ve not been as totally convincing this term.

“The expectations and demands on the manager there are always intense, but Brendan’s welcomed it and Celtic are still on course for another treble, that’s incredible.”

There is still a chance that the Hoops will end this season having won the league title as well as the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup.

The Bhoys won all three trophies last season and if they repeat the achievement this campaign, it will be the first time any Scottish side has successfully secured back-to-back trebles.

OPINION

Duffy is right to argue that Rodgers deserves more praise for accomplishments at Parkhead as trophies don’t win themselves. The Hoops manager guided his side to domestic domination last season and if he does it again everyone should take note. While the Bhoys still need to improve in European tournaments, that’s easier said than done without a lot of money being invested in the squad. However they do need to stop suffering such embarrassingly heavy defeats in the Champions League, as there’s no excuse for those. Duffy believes Rodgers deserves to win the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year award and it’s easy to see that he will no doubt end up with the accolade.
