Three things learned about Newcastle v Arsenal

|

Perez looks a new man

When the going got tough for Newcastle in the first-half of the season, there were several of the club’s stars who were performing well below expectations. One of those was forward Ayoze Perez, who in many ways became a scapegoat for the club’s poor form, particularly in attack. The long-serving Spaniard, who has been at the club for four years now, was much-maligned by sections of Newcastle support who questioned his role in the team. Fast forward a few months and the 24-year-old is back in everyone’s good books having scored three crucial goals in their bid for survival. The first was a winner against relegation rivals Huddersfield, the second another winner against Leicester City, and the third coming this weekend against Arsenal. That is nine points that Perez has secured for the club in three games, and he has gone from zero to hero at St. James’ Park.
