Peterborough have slapped a price tag of £5million plus extras on the head of Leeds target Jack Marriott, according to the Daily Mail

The newspaper claim that Posh expect the prolific 23-year-old striker to attract massive interest this summer after a season which has seen him bag 31 goals in all competitions [Source: Transfermarkt].

The Mail report that Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest are all interested in the League One star, but Peterborough will only sell for the right price.

It is said that the club rate Marriott as better than Britt Assombalonga and Dwight Gayle, with both leaving the club for fees of around £7million including add-ons.

Premier League clubs are also reported to be interested in Marriott’s signature.

Good move for Leeds United?

Absolutely.

Marriott has been one of the country’s most-prolific strikers this season, and is clearly ready for a step up in competition.

The Whites have struggled for a regular goalscoring presence up front, with Caleb Ekuban, Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Kemar Roofe all massively inconsistent this season.

If Paul Heckingbottom’s side had a striker up front who was guaranteed to score 20 or so per season, then they would stand a big chance of gaining that elusive promotion back to the Premier League.

Likely to happen?

Leeds have long held an interest in Marriott, but there will clearly be massive competition for his services this summer.

If the Whites are willing to shell out the required £5million+, then they must be prepared to do so quickly, before a bidding war ensues which may see them outgunned.
