Tottenham defender Juan Foyth got another first-team opportunity on Wednesday night in the FA Cup and certainly showed glimpses that he can become a top player.

The 20-year-old is enjoying his first taste of English football this season and made his eighth senior appearance in midweek.

He played as Spurs eased past League One Rochdale in the FA cup fifth round and showed some excellent moments of quality in possession, albeit against lower league opposition.

Foyth is an upcoming talent at the North London club and is quickly becoming known as a ball-playing centre-back.

The Argentinian is very composed on the ball and has the perfect mentors in senior defender Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen to learn from.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has helped develop that pair into world-class defenders and he is the perfect man to help Foyth’s development over the next few years.
He appears to have all the basics of a top defender given his confidence and ball-playing ability at such a young age, but Pochettino can help iron out the mistakes.

Foyth didn’t look completely confident alongside teammate Eric Dier in a back four and has come in for some criticism for his performance.

However, he is still very inexperienced and Spurs fans should be pleased with what they have seen.

Foyth is currently the fifth-choice centre-back option at the club and a possible loan spell could help his development, or he could be pushed up the pecking order if there are any departures in the summer.

He looks on course to play 10-plus games at least this year and he is definitely a player to watch out over the coming years.
