Tottenham are set to begin talks with their key midfielder Mousa Dembele over a new deal, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that Spurs may begin discussions with the 30-year-old whose current contract expires at the end of next season.

It is understood that the Belgium international is keen to agree a new deal that pushes his wages towards the £100,000-a-week mark.

Dembele has been a colossal figure during his six-year stay with the North London club and is an integral figure of Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The left-footed central midfielder is renowned for his power and agility, something that makes him impossible for opponents to deal with.

Sky Sports have reported recently that Spurs are keen to open talks with their attacker Heung-Min Son over a new contract and it appears the club are looking to tie down their first-team stars.

OPINION

Dembele is certainly one of the standout players in the Spurs team and his recent purple patch of form saw him become the heartbeat of the side. The midfield powerhouse is showing no signs of stopping at his age and allowing him to commit his future to a long-term deal makes perfect sense. Dembele is certainly a big favourite with supporters and the manager, but it’s his overall technical ability and influence that should see Spurs fork out on a new deal worth £100,000-a-week. Spurs need to pay the top fees if they are to continue establishing themselves as a force in England and winning silverware is just the one thing missing from Pochettino’s side.
