Leeds United are keen on landing midfield sensation Harry Cochrane from Scottish top-flight club Hearts, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Whites and Premier League side Brighton are both interested in the 16-year-old first teamer.

It is understood that Hearts are looking to repel any interest in the teenager and want to tie him down to a new contract at Tynecastle.

The report details that they are close to agreeing a new deal with the central midfielder, whose current deal can only be extended an extra year to 2021 due to his age.

Good move for Leeds?

Cochrane deserves an immense amount of credit for becoming an important member of the Hearts senior side at his age, but he is not the type of signing Leeds need to focus on.

He could certainly be a star for the future and it would be no surprise to see the Scotsman move over to England at some point.

However, Leeds need players with Championship know-how for next season because as it stands the current group have failed with yet another promotion bid.

Paul Heckingbottom needs an overhaul in the summer and his transfers most be centred around signing ready-made products that can impact the starting XI, something that would probably be a step too far for Cochrane as it stands.

Likely to happen?

Leeds have shown their interest in Cochrane, but it would be a bit of a surprise to see him make a switch to Elland Road.

He is enjoying regular first-team football at Hearts and it would make sense for him to continue his development in Scotland.
