Celtic are in the race to sign goalkeeper Scott Bain on a permanent deal in the summer when his contract expires at Dundee, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Bhoys are in the hunt to sign the 26-year-old alongside league rivals Hibernian and Hearts.

It is understood he is just months away from becoming a free agent as his deal runs down at Dundee.

Bain was sent out on loan by Dundee in the January window as he linked up with Scottish giants Celtic amid their problems in goal with Craig Gordon’s injury.

The shot-stopper made his debut for Brendan Rodgers’ side at the weekend and caught the eye with some smart saves in the dramatic 3-2 win away to Old Firm rivals Rangers.

Good move for Celtic?

Bain certainly impressed at the weekend against Rangers and already looks a much better solution than current option Dorus de Vries.

He should get the nod moving forward at least until Gordon’s return and could stake a real claim in the remainder of the season.

It would definitely make sense for Celtic to pick up Bain on a free transfer following the expiration of his deal at Dundee and his experience of 108 top flight games in Scotland is crucial.

Likely to happen?

There seems every chance that Parkhead could become Bain’s home, especially if he manages to force his way into the starting XI this term on a regular basis.

It is expected there will be a battle for his signature when he departs and Celtic should have the ammunition to blow their rivals away.
