Mark Warburton shared that he believes Rangers’ Kenny Miller is Graeme Murty’s most powerful weapon in the Old Firm derby due to his experience.

The former Gers boss singled out Miller as his side’s biggest threat ahead of the game against Celtic on Sunday, even though the 38-year-old has only played 35 minutes of action since December 13.

“Kenny Miller is an outstanding professional, his record in Old Firm games is unrivalled,” said Warburton, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“He probably won’t start on Sunday, but I still see him being a hugely important figure for Rangers.

“I actually think Kenny could be the most powerful weapon for Graeme Murty; in terms of someone who is Rangers through and through, he cares passionately about the club, he’s influential in the changing room in the right way.”

Aside from hardly featuring as of late, Warburton highlighted Miller even though he has only managed to score four goals in 21 appearances this season, and hasn’t netted since October.

“Kenny can play a vital role for Sunday’s game, the rest of the campaign and the seasons ahead,” the former Light Blues manager stated.

“He knows where Rangers need to be, people talk about Rangers closing the gap with Celtic.

“But Kenny will know Rangers have to be AHEAD of Celtic, that’s it.”

OPINION

Warburton clearly has a soft spot for Miller after working with him, but to claim that he is Murty most powerful weapon is bold. The former Gers manager is correct to say that the 38-year-old’s experience will be vital in the dressing room, but that hardly warrants calling him the side’s most powerful weapon. Miller has been on the fringes of the Gers’ squad ever since suffering an injury and doesn’t seem to be able to force Murty into giving him game time. The centre-forward has been an unused substitute in three of the last four league games, and with several players performing so well, he is way down the pecking order. Celtic certainly won’t expect to see him coming.
