Jamie Carragher has revealed that he believes Andy Robertson has been a revelation at Liverpool since the 23-year-old started playing regularly for the side.

The Sky Sports pundit stated that he thought the Reds’ full-backs would be the key to unlocking Manchester United’s defence on Saturday, before commenting on Robertson’s performances this season.

“I was surprised he came out of the team earlier in the season, when Klopp brought Moreno back in, but Robertson has been a revelation since then,” said Carragher on Monday Night Football Extra, as quoted by Sky Sports’ official website.

“He wasn’t a massive amount of money, not a big-name signing from Hull, and we wondered whether he was good enough to play for Liverpool.

“What he’s showing at this moment is he’s more than good enough to play for Liverpool.”

Robertson has made 19 appearances across all competitions for the Reds this season, grabbing two assists in the process.

The 23-year-old joined Jurgen Klopp’s side from Hull City in the summer, after the Reds agreed a deal that could see them eventually pay £10million, according to the BBC, for the left-back.

OPINION

After a slow start to life at Anfield, Robertson has cemented himself as a regular member of the Reds’ first-team. Carragher was not the only pundit to doubt the 23-year-old defender when he joined the club, as after featuring in only two of the Reds’ first 14 league games, it looked like he had made a mistake joining. However Robertson kept his head down and took his opportunity to impress once Alberto Moreno suffered an injury. The 23-year-old’s crossing ability makes him a helpful member of the Reds’ attack, and kept him ahead of Moreno, whose crosses normally miss their target. If Robertson is able to keep his good performances up, then Liverpool look like they have solved their left-back problem which once plagued them.
