Jason Holt has vowed to work as hard as possible in order to get back into Rangers’ first-team.

The 25-year-old central midfielder admitted that it has been difficult not featuring for the team lately, but revealed he remained determined to get back in Graeme Murty’s plans.

“Any time you’re out of the team it’s tough and it’s difficult and frustrating,” confessed Holt, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“But the only thing you can do is get the head down and work hard in training and try to impress the gaffer and get back into the team.

“I had been the captain and then I wasn’t playing, which is tough, when you’re on the receiving end it’s frustrating but in the long run it’s good for the squad.

“But I want to get that shirt back and I’ll be working hard to do that.”

Holt has made 25 appearances for the Gers this season, but after missing the game against Hamilton through suspension, has not been able to get back in the first-team, Murty axing him in favour of his summer signings.

Both Greg Docherty and Sean Goss, who joined the club in January, have been chosen ahead of Holt, and have impressed with their recent performances, something Holt has recognised.

“Greg, who has taken my place, has done really well so I just have to bide my time,” admitted the 25-year-old midfielder.

“There are three of four central midfielders not playing at the moment and when they’re all fit they will be itching for an opportunity.”

OPINION

Holt being kept out the Rangers team, just shows how much competition there is in the squad. While it may be a frustrating time for the 25-year-old midfielder, it is a great sign that the Gers have such a bright future. Whenever a manager is given a selection headache as he has too many good players to choose from, it normally means the club will deliver the results required of them in order to get success. It is hard to see how Holt is going to get back in the team due to Rangers’ recent success, as at the moment they look incapable of losing. It is doubtful that Murty will change a winning formula ahead of the crucial game against Celtic on March 11, a game Holt would no doubt love to be a part of.
