After Brendan Rodgers hinted that Celtic could sign Odsonne Edouard at the end of the season, it might mean that an exciting precedent is about to be set.

The Hoops manager commented on potentially signing the 20-year-old forward, who is currently on loan at the club, on a permanent basis from Paris St-Germain in the summer, and suggested that there was a chance a deal could happen.

“He’s settled in well and if we have any chance to do something at the end of the season then we can look at that,” said Rodgers, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

Even though Edouard is currently the third-choice forward at the Hoops, the 20-year-old has still impressed by scoring eight goals in 24 appearances this season.

Edouard has shown all the signs that he only set to get better and the powerful attacker looks to destined to achieve big things in football if he fulfills his potential.

Daily Record previously reported that there was an agreement with PSG that would see the Hoops have first refusal on the forward if they stumped up £7million for him.

Rodgers denied that the fee would be £7million but confirmed there was a clause in place about signing him permanently.

“I’m not telling you what it is, but it’s not that,” said the Hoops manager as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

While Rodgers ruled out the fee being £7million, there’s good chance it’s either close to that figure or slightly higher, given the fact Edouard is still only 20-years-old.

The most Celtic have ever paid for a player is £6million which they spent way back in 2000 on Chris Sutton, as reported by the Daily Record.

So with Rodgers hinting that signing Edouard in the summer is possible, by making the big money signing it would set an exciting precedent for the club.

It could mean that the Hoops are finally set to spend the type of cash they need to in order to do better in European competitions.

This change of attitude would mark the start of an exciting and gamechanging new period in the club’s history.
