Despite only joining the club in the summer, Bruno Alves should not kick a ball for Rangers again after his dreadful performance against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

The veteran centre-back was no help to his team as they slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat courtesy of Steve Clarke’s side and his display should prove to be the last straw for manager Graeme Murty.

Alves may believe his place in the team is safe because Murty recently confirmed that fellow centre-back David Bates is out injured for six weeks, as reported by Sky Sports.

However any other player would have been more useful than Alves in the middle of Rangers’ defence against Kilmarnock, so Murty might as well raid the academy to find a centre-back to play.

The 36-year-old Portuguese defender has been woeful ever since arriving in Scotland from Cagliari Calcio and given his age, isn’t exactly going to get any better.

Especially as his attitude appears to be all wrong, as during Saturday’s defeat, the defender failed to break a sweat and looked uninterested by the game around him.

Alves has made 21 appearances across all competitions for the Gers this season, and that’s more than enough chances to prove yourself at the club.

Given the fact the defender only joined in July, he is still contracted to stay at Ibrox until 2019.

The club will struggle to find anyone to sell him to after his displays this season, but they must bin him in the summer.

Until they can get him off their books, Murty must resist any urge to give him another chance and keep him well away from the first-team.
