Conor Hourihane completed just 54 minutes in the defeat to Bolton on Saturday evening – and Aston Villa fans on Twitter annihilated the midfielder for his performance.
The 27-year-old was substituted off early in the second-half after an ineffective display and his side ended up suffering a shock 1-0 away loss at Bolton.
Adam Le Fondre scored the only goal of the game in the first-half and inflicted a defeat on Steve Bruce’s side that has seriously damaged their automatic promotion hopes.
The Midlands giants remain fourth in the league standings and are seven points behind second-placed Cardiff, who also have a game in hand.
Steve Bruce’s side look odds-on to be put through the turmoil of the play-offs and were expected to close the gap to Cardiff before the close of play, while Wolves look out of sight at the league’s summit.
Villa fans on social media decided to highlight Hourihane for his individual display and feel that he was anonymous as he struggled to get on the ball.
The left-footed central midfielder has been an ever-present in the starting XI under Bruce, but that now seems under threat based on the reaction from angry supporters.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:
Sometimes I feel bad for Hourihane because people don’t realise his contribution but before being taken off tonight he was totally invisible. #avfc

Hourihane's playing hide and seek again. Henri Lansbury please. Failing that, Ian Taylor is sat behind me, get him on. ? pic.twitter.com/ZsP1jcKdu9
