David Moyes has been given personal control of the upcoming overhaul of West Ham’s recruitment department, according to The Times.

The newspaper claim that Moyes has been asked to recommend a replacement director of football after Tony Henry was sacked following racist comments in January.

The Times report that the Scot has also been given permission to bring in five new scouts to the club as they look to revamp their key transfer personnel.

It is said that this is the biggest sign yet that the club want Moyes to stay beyond the end of his contract this summer.

Moyes’ future at the London Stadium is reportedly still not secure as the club will only offer him a new deal if they avoid relegation, but they are allowing him to plan the future in other ways.

OPINION

Moyes’ future at West Ham will ultimately come down to one thing and one thing only, whether the club retain their Premier League status. That’s the job that he was brought in to do, and that is the one thing he will be judged on. However, the club’s decision to give him control of proceedings like this does indicate that he is in good standing, and that is a promising sign for all involved.
