BBC pundit Garth Crooks has raved about Tottenham attacker Son Heung-Min after his match-winning display against Huddersfield, and claimed he is eclipsing teammate Dele Alli this season.

The South Korea international scored both goals as Spurs overcame Huddersfield at Wembley on Saturday to solidify their position in the top four.

The 25-year-old has 15 goals and nine assists in 41 matches in all competitions for the club this season, following on from a brilliant year last time out when he scored 21 times overall.

Crooks named Son in his team of the week for BBC Sport, and praised Son for his form this season while making the big claim about Alli as well.

“Son Heung-min is already a national treasure in South Korea and rapidly becoming the latest Wembley darling among Tottenham fans. Son took both his goals brilliantly against a totally outclassed Huddersfield.

“He is also slowly eclipsing the presence of Dele Alli, who was amazing last season. Both players have very important roles to play if Spurs are going to win a trophy this season. However, I would like both players to be playing brilliantly at the same time, if you don’t mind,” said Crooks.

Alli, 21, is having a quiet season for Spurs so far this term, but has still managed to net nine times and lay on 15 assists in all competitions.

OPINION

It is hard to argue with Crooks’ assessment of Son this season. The 25-year-old has been simply brilliant for Spurs all season, and is most definitely out-performing Alli on a regular basis. His two goals against Huddersfield were so well-taken, the first seeing him calmly round the ‘keeper before slotting past a retreating defender, and the second a well-cushioned header from Harry Kane’s brilliant cross. Tottenham need Son to keep performing in this way for the rest of the season, starting with Juventus on Wednesday as they look to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
