David Moyes has suggested that he wants more control over transfers at West Ham.

The Hammers manager was asked by Jim White about managers having a say in transfers on Thursday and suggested that he would like some input at West Ham if the opportunity arose.

“All managers at most clubs want to be able to make the decisions which they will be judged on, and I’m no different,” said Moyes on Jim White’s show on talkSPORT, as quoted by the radio’s official website.

“I’ve worked with some great chairmen at the clubs I’ve managed – Bryan Gray at Preston North End, Sir Philip Carter and Bill Kenwright at Everton– who all gave me the chance to do exactly what I think I needed to do.

“I think if you give managers that chance then it’s up them to do it.

“If that comes around for me [at West Ham], then great.”

It is widely understood that co-chairman David Sullivan holds a big influence over West Ham’s transfer business and it’s unknown how much say Moyes had on the three signings the club made in January.

The Hammers signed Oladapo Afolayan, Jordan Hugill and Joao Mario during the last window, before signing free agent Patrice Evra in February.

The Times previously reported that Sullivan was set to take a step back from leading the club’s recruitment drive, with Moyes set to take control.

OPINION

Moyes seems to have dismissed the Times’ report that he has been handed more control over transfers. The Hammers’ manager was quoted in the article as saying that Sullivan was set to take a step back, but the Scottish boss didn’t confirm he was the man to take over. Moyes’ latest comments on talkSPORT suggest that he was keen to be handed more control over transfers but that the opportunity to do so, hadn’t arose at the Hammers so far. The club had a dismal January window and were in need of making more signings as they needed to strengthen  their team in order to fight off the threat of relegation. If Moyes is confident that he can do a better job, then hopefully the board give him the power.
