Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been promoted to England’s senior team to train with them, according to a reliable journalist.

Times correspondent Paul Joyce has reported on his official Twitter account that the 19-year-old has been training with Gareth Southgate’s squad.

The right-back was called up to England’s Under-21s side for the international break under Aidy Boothroyd, but has also been given the opportunity to train with the seniors.

Alexander-Arnold will be familiar with a number of players and four Liverpool teammates in the shape of Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are already in the squad.

The teenager is considered to be a rising star at Anfield and has become an important first teamer this season under Jurgen Klopp.

He has now featured 22 times across all competitions this season and is a modern-day full-back with his great attacking intent.

OPINION

Alexander-Arnold certainly looks like a future senior England international and is already becoming a top performer for Liverpool. The defender is thriving under the tutelage of Klopp and is only going to continue progressing. He was highly rated in the club’s academy and has now managed to make the step up at senior level. There is no reason why he can’t do the same on the international stage, but his path is currently blocked behind two brilliant talents in Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier. Alexander-Arnold will definitely benefit from training with the seniors and is clearly someone that is in the back of Southgate’s mind.
