Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier has claimed that a move to Tottenham Hotspur ‘would seem obvious’ for Manchester United star Luke Shaw.

Shaw has been the subject of constant criticism from United boss Jose Mourinho, with the latest coming in their 2-0 win over Brighton in the FA Cup at the weekend, and looks likely to move on this summer.

The 22-year-old has failed to nail down a first-team place at Old Trafford since his £33million move from Southampton in 2014, with his attitude and work-rate has been the subject of Mourinho’s criticisms.

A reunion with his former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs has been mooted for a long time, with several reports suggesting that a swap deal could take place involving Danny Rose.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Le Tissier said: “Having worked with Pochettino before and spoken highly of him, it would seem obvious for him to go to Tottenham with Danny Rose potentially going the opposite way as he is obviously desperate to get back up north.

“I don’t think Southampton could compete in the wages department and the player would probably look at it as a backward move, so he would probably think he is worthy of playing for a club competing for the Premier League title.”

OPINION

It would indeed seem an obvious move for Shaw to make, but it is yet to be seen whether Tottenham are truly interested in the 22-year-old. Pochettino is known to be an admirer of Shaw from their time together, but he has also expressed reservations of his own about the flyer. On their side, Rose looks on his way out of the club after an injury-plagued season in which his desire to leave Spurs has come to the fore. While the move does make sense for both parties, it remains to be seen whether it will actually come to fruition this summer.
