David Prutton has predicted Aston Villa to win when they host QPR on Tuesday night in the Championship.

The Midlands giants welcome QPR for a league fixture and are aiming to close the gap to the automatic spots.

Steve Bruce’s side are third in the table and four points adrift of second-placed Cardiff, while leaders Wolves are seven points ahead.

However, Villa were given a giant lift at the weekend as they annihilated Wolves 4-1 at home, which was their third consecutive win in the league.

Sky Sports pundit Prutton has tipped Villa to keep up their winning run with a 2-0 victory over mid-table QPR whose season is petering out.

“What a victory that was for Aston Villa on Saturday. They were superb against Wolves and it was a big statement from them in their continued pursuit of automatic promotion,” Prutton wrote for Sky Sports.

“QPR did well to battle past Sunderland at the weekend but a trip to Villa Park while the home side are in this kind of form is a daunting proposition. I can’t see past a Villa win.”

OPINION

Villa really are in a rich vein of form and the importance of the Wolves victory can’t be understated. They should desperately be aiming to finish inside the top two as the play-offs can be a complete lottery at times based on previous seasons. Villa do have some in-form players really stepping up for Bruce at a vital part of the campaign and they should have far too much, especially at home, to put away QPR in midweek. They travel to Bolton and Hull in their following two matches and there appears to be a real chance for them to continue their winning streak for a bit longer.
