Celtic crashed out of the Europa League after a dismal 3-0 second-leg defeat to Zenit St. Petersburg, and fans have taken to Twitter to slaughter the display of centre-back Jozo Simunovic.

The Hoops headed into the clash in St. Petersburg in good spirits, having overcome their opponents with a narrow 1-0 victory at Parkhead in the first leg.

A brilliant goal from Callum McGregor had given Celtic that crucial win, but it wasn’t long before Zenit were ahead on the night and level in the tie.

Simunovic was at fault as he lost former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic from a corner, and the Serbia international powered a header past Dorus de Vries.

Zenit then took control of the game and doubled their lead 20 minutes later through Daler Kuzyayev, whose swerving shot somehow beat the at-fault Dorus de Vries.

Celtic headed into the break at 2-0 down, but things were to get worse on 61 minutes as Russia international striker Aleksandr Kokorin slid in at the back post to turn in a brilliant cross from Ivanovic.

Much attention after the game turned to Simunovic and his poor display, with the 23-year-old looking all at sea for most of the evening.
