Tottenham are currently tracking fleet-footed attacker Steven Bergwijn from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, according to ESPN.

The news outlet claims that Spurs and Everton are eyeing the rapid winger from PSV, who are currently seven points clear at the summit of the Dutch top-flight.

It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino is planning to build a squad over the summer that is capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.

The report details that the north London club have had a long-term interest in Bergwijn and are still in the race for his signature alongside Premier League rivals Everton.

PSV are readying themselves for bids at the end of the season and it’s believed England is the 20-year-old’s most likely destination.

Good move for Spurs?

Bergwijn is an upcoming talent in Holland and the likes of Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez have all moved from the Eredivise to Spurs in the past with success.

The young wide man is renowned for his brilliant technical ability and his fast dribbling that terrorises full-backs.

He is by no means the finished article yet, but he is a rising star that could develop into a great player under the tutelage of Pochettino.

Bergwijn has made 26 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring five goals and supplying six assists in return for PSV.

He is hardly the marquee signing that will see Spurs become direct competition with this season’s champions-elect Manchester City, but his potential would make him a good purchase.

Likely to happen?

Spurs clearly have a firm interest in Bergwijn and are going to face a tough battle for his signature when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.

However, they have shown their desire to promote youth in their first team and that should be a big positive in trying to secure a deal.
