Leeds United have terminated the contract of attacker Eoghan Stokes, it has been announced by the club.

The Whites confirmed on their official website that the 21-year-old centre-forward has left the club with immediate effect after they ripped up his deal.

It has been confirmed that his contract has been ended by mutual honest.

He departs Elland Road having made one senior appearance, which was in the EFL Cup this season against Newport County.

The Irishman has been a regular feature in the club’s youth teams, but has been unable to make the step up to the first team with the Yorkshire giants.

OPINION

Leeds do have several forward options in their squad and it appears that Stokes was never going to make the step up to Thomas Christiansen’s side. At 21 he had still made just one senior appearances and leaving Elland Road now could turn out to be a great move on his career if he is picking up by another team. Leeds have shown they are keen to invest in youth, with the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Ronaldo Vieira now important first-team members after coming up from the academy. Meanwhile, they managed to secure a deadline day deal for centre-forward Tyler Roberts from West Brom and the 19-year-old is expected to link straight up with Christiansen’s side.
