Frank Lampard was blown away by the performance of defender Kieran Trippier in the 2-0 win over Manchester United.

Spurs managed to pick up a vital three points in the Premier League as they proved too hot for Jose Mourinho’s side at Wembley.

The north London club made a lightning start as Christian Eriksen netted after only 11 seconds to put the hosts in control.

Man United defender Phil Jones then scored an owl goal when he mistimed his clearance from a Tripper cross.

Spurs are now just two points outside of the top four positions and there next league encounters are against rivals Liverpool and Arsenal.

Pundit Lampard decided to give right-back Trippier special praise for his influence on Wednesday night’s game and feel he was brilliant going forward.

“Kieran Trippier I thought was actually very unlucky not to be man of the match,” Lampard said during BT Sport’s televised coverage of Spurs v Man United on Wednesday night.

“He was right up there with Eriksen with his delivery and how high he play and the attacking influence he had on the game.”

OPINION

Trippier proved how much of an attacking threat he can be in midweek as he forced Man United’s left flank of Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young back into their own half on a consistent basis. The full-back is in direct competition with teammate Serge Aurier for the regular right-back slot and certainly enhanced his reputation against Mourinho’s team. The England international has proven that he is a great crosser of the ball and that resulted in Jones’ own goal. Manager Mauricio Pochettino is likely to continue with his policy of rotating his full-backs during the rest of the season, but it’s important Trippier continues to perform to guarantee his spot in the World Cup squad with England.
