Watford’s midfield enforcer Abdoulaye Doucoure has confirmed that Liverpool are keen to sign him.

The 25-year-old revealed to French TV station Telefoot that the Merseyside club, Tottenham and Arsenal are all interested in his signature due to his brilliant form at Vicarage Road.

“It’s true that these clubs are interested,” Doucoure said when asked about interested from the Premier League trio, as translated by the Daily Mail.

“But I’m at Watford for the moment and I want to finish my season well.”

The Daily Mail previously reported that Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool are all in the hunt for the Watford star performer and it has now been confirmed by the player.

Doucoure has been one of the best players outside of the top six clubs this season and become a goalscoring midfielder.

He is renowned for his physical strength in the middle of the park and his defensive work, but has also managed to chip in with seven goals.

Liverpool do already have several options in midfield as the likes of Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain, Emre Can, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana compete for a starting berth.

OPINION

Doucoure has rightfully attracted interest from top clubs given his displays in the Premier League, but this is by far his best season to date and there is nothing to guarantee he could make the step up. Liverpool have already agreed a deal in principal to buy midfield destroyer Naby Keita in the summer from RB Leipzig and he is expected to make a huge impact at Anfield. Doucoure should be entering the prime years of his career and it would be no surprise to see him get his big-money move in the summer. However, Jurgen Klopp may not necessarily need the Watford ace and should let one of their rivals snap him up.
