Celtic and Rangers are going head-to-head in a bid to take Sunderland starlet Ethan Robson on a cut-price deal this summer, according to The Sun

The newspaper claim that central midfielder Robson, who is out of contract at the end of the season, will cost just £150,000 in compensation fees if he leaves the Stadium of Light.

The Sun report that Robson is valued around £2million, and the 21-year-old has expressed no desire to sign a new deal with the Black Cats.

It is said that Celtic and Rangers have both shown interest in snapping up the English midfielder up this summer when his contract expires.

Good move for Celtic?

Absolutely.

Robson is valued at around £2million in today’s market, so to get him for a meagre fee of just £150,000 would be a massive coup for Celtic.

The central midfielder has captained the club’s Under-23 side, and has now broken into their Championship squad, making nine first-team appearances so far.

He is obviously a great prospect, and so to try and get him on such a deal is a no-brainer.

Likely to happen?

It is still early days, so it is hard to tell at the moment.

Robson is showing no desire to sign a new deal at the Black Cats, and that will definitely not change if they are relegated from the Championship.

So, it is likely he will leave, but where to?

Celtic would look like a good option, but there will surely be other sides who come in between now and the end of the season, and they might represent a better move for Robson.
