Tottenham and Liverpool are both monitoring Brighton’s Ben White after he rejected the offer of a new contract, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claim that the centre-back, who is currently on loan at Newport County, has alerted both Spurs and the Reds by a rejecting a new deal, as he only has a year left to run on his current Seagulls contract.

The Sun report that White is being watched by a number of Premier League clubs, and Newport manager Mike Flynn has predicted that the 20-year-old will one day play for England.

White has made 39 appearances for the League Two side this season, which included playing in both matches against Spurs, but has only made two appearances for Brighton’s senior side.

Both of his outings for the Seagulls were made in the League Cup last season.

Good move for Spurs?

Yes, given White’s contract situation.

The 20-year-old is definitely one to watch for the future and showed his ability during both of the FA Cup fixtures against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

White played in the heart of Newport’s defence in those games, but is capable of playing as a left-back or defensive midfielder when called upon.

If Spurs could snap up the versatile youngster when his Brighton contract expires, then it would be a smart cheap signing that will benefit the club in the future.

Likely to happen?

With White putting his Brighton future in doubt by rejecting a new contract, then there’s a chance he could join Spurs.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side face tough competition for his signature as he is being scouted by a host of Premier League clubs.

Spurs could have the edge over their rivals though, given the side’s good reputation for utilizing youth in their first-team.
