Tottenham Hotspur came away from Anfield with a precious point after Harry Kane slotted home a 95th minute penalty against Liverpool, and fans have taken to Twitter to rave about the display of centre-back Jan Vertonghen.

The home side took a very early lead through Mo Salah, who calmly slotted home after a defensive error from Eric Dier put him clean through on goal.

It then took until 80 minutes for Spurs to find an equaliser despite them dominating proceedings as Victor Wanyama scored a rare goal with an absolute screamer, half-volleying into the top corner to bring his side level.

It then looked like Spurs were on for the win as Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius tripped Kane in the box to concede a spot-kick, but Kane’s tame effort was saved by the German.

Salah then sent Anfield into raptures with a brilliant solo goal on 93 minutes, turning Ben Davies and Vertonghen inside out before slotting home above the oncoming Lloris.

However, it was not to be for Liverpool as Virgil van Dijk kicked the back of Erik Lamela’s legs to concede another penalty, and Kane made no mistake the second time round to score his 100th Premier League goal.

Despite being beaten for the second Liverpool goal, Spurs fans took to Twitter to heap praise on 30-year-old Vertonghen, who has been one of Spurs’ most consistent performers this season.
