Danny Murphy has explained his concern over Tottenham full-backs Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies ahead of the club’s upcoming clash against Liverpool.

Spurs travel to Anfield on Sunday for a Premier League encounter and both teams are in the hunt for a top four spot this season.

Murphy, who regularly works as a pundit for BBC Sport, has claimed that defenders Trippier and Davies could be in for a horrid afternoon against Liverpool’s wingers Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

He feels that the attacking tendencies of the duo could be exploited majorly by Jurgen Klopp’s side if they play their cards right.

Both full-backs starred for Spurs recently in a 2-0 win at home to Manchester United, but will be prepared to face a completely kettle of fish in Liverpool’s prolific attackers.

“Against Manchester United at Wembley, the Spurs full-backs, Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies, attacked constantly and stayed high up the pitch,” Murphy wrote in the Evening Standard.

“Against Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, that would be a big risk.

“If Trippier and Davies find themselves isolated against those two they will face a tough afternoon.”

OPINION

Spurs do of course have the luxury of having four brilliant senior options in the full-back areas, meaning that the duo of Serge Aurier and Danny Rose could easily be promoted to the starting XI. Mauricio Pochettino has frequently rotated the four defensive options and going with the faster Rose-Aurier combination could be something for the manager to consider ahead of the weekend’s game. Liverpool showed how devastating they can be going forward when they ended Manchester City’s undefeated run in January and will certainly be looking to exploit the Anfield atmosphere. However, Spurs’ recent win over Manchester United was one of the standouts of their season and it is set to be a cracking fixture.
