Garth Crooks has stated that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy simply must sign elite players to ensure the club win silverware in the near future in order to keep talisman Harry Kane.

Spurs have flirted with silverware in the past couple of years, but the last trophy the club won was the League Cup in 2008.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has built a decent squad at the north London club and centre-forward Harry Kane is at the heart of their team.

The 24-year-old is now regarded as one of the world’s best strikers, scoring 32 goals in 33 appearances this season.

BBC pundit Crooks is blown away by the quality of the England International, but claims it will be impossible for Spurs to keep him in the long-term if their trophy drought continues.

Crooks has stated that Levy must inject some further cash into the club to help sign top players that can help them get over the line in pressure moments.

“Can Spurs really expect to keep this player (Kane) without winning a trophy in return?” Crooks wrote in his column for BBC Sport.

“It is therefore incumbent on chairman Daniel Levy to bring in the players who don’t merely flirt with the Premier League title but can actually win it.

“Spurs have clearly demonstrated in the past two weeks against Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal that they can compete with the best. They now have to start winning trophies.“

OPINION

Spurs certainly do have a formidable starting XI and it would require serious money to bring in a player that would improve it. However, they may have to do that to finally win silverware and of course star men like Harry Kane will want to win trophies during their career, which is why there are concerns he could leave in the future. Spurs could perhaps do with a proven winner in their side as the majority of their team lack that know-how. It would require Levy to fork out a big sum on a world-class player to really send out a statement that Spurs want to be the best. They are on the verge of the success they so desperately crave, but just need that final push to achieve it.
