Newcastle United had a £7million bid for Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues rejected in January, according to Gunes.

The Turkish newspaper claim that Rafa Benitez was looking to strengthen his attack in the final days of the window and submitted a £7million bid for the 27-year-old Cape Verde international.

Gunes report that Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim rejected the bid straight away, as the club had just sold midfielder Badou Ndiaye to Stoke City.

It is said that Galatasaray will demand £14million for Rodrigues in the summer, which is the same price Stoke paid for Ndiaye and double what Newcastle offered in January.

Good move for Newcastle United?

For £7million, Rodrigues would have been a good buy.

The Cape Verde international speedster has three goals and seven assists this season, in 20 league appearances.

The Newcastle attack is desperately in need of someone who can provide quality delivery into the box, and Rodrigues could have been that man.

However, if they want to go back in the summer, then they could probably do better elsewhere for £14million.

Likely to happen?

The report is not clear about whether the Magpies will come back in for Rodrigues this summer.

However, with two goals and four assists in his last five games, Rodrigues is in good form, and that makes a return bid more likely.

Things will become a bit more clear in the coming weeks.
