Aston Villa’s John Terry is plotting a move back to Chelsea to start his coaching career, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claim that the 37-year-old sees being a coach at the Blues as the best chance he has of becoming the Chelsea manager in the future, and it is believed there could be an opening for him in the summer if Antonio Conte leaves the club.

The Daily Mirror report that Steve Bruce is likely to offer Terry a new deal, with his current contract expiring in the summer, as he has been a huge hit at Aston Villa.

The centre-back has made 21 appearances for the Villans in the Championship this season and has been vital in helping them sit second in the table.

OPINION

If Terry wants to hang up his boots and kick-start his coaching career in the summer, then there’s nothing the Villans can do about it. The veteran defender has put in some impressive performances this season, but Aston Villa were always aware they might not have him in their squad for long. Terry only signed a 12 month contract in the summer upon joining, and it was always likely that he could only spend a season with the club given his age. However, no one expected him to become as vital to the side as he has done. Though Villans fans shouldn’t be too disappointed as they could be in the Premier League next season thanks to Terry’s efforts.
