Steve Bull has revealed he has been impressed by Wolves’ Morgan Gibbs-White this season.

In his column for the Express and Star, the club legend shared that even he thought the teenager was a natural, Nuno Espirito Santo was right to only use him sparingly.

“The 18-year-old midfielder, from Stafford, is a class act, of course, he is only a young lad and has a lot to learn but I think I speak for all Wolves fans in saying that I like what I’ve seen from him so far,” said Bull.

“Morgan seems to have a mature head on his shoulders, he is a natural, he has a great engine too.

“And I like the way Nuno Espirito Santo has brought him into the fold, giving him 20-30 minutes on a regular basis – to give him a taste of what it is all like.

“Nuno has done it to find out whether he is up to the task, and he certainly is.”

Gibbs-White has only made four appearances in the Championship this season, with his total playing time in the league being 87 minutes.

Bull went on to suggest that he believes Santo shouldn’t start the midfielder against Fulham on Friday, but should hand him more starts next season.

“I would not chuck him in from the start at Fulham today in the absence of Ruben Neves, who is suspended,” stated Bull.

“I think the best approach is to keep giving Morgan half an hour or so as he has the ability to unpick defences as they tire.

“Then, with a full pre-season under his belt, I would look at giving him some more starts next season.

“There is no need to rush with him and place too much expectation on him, he has a lot of time on his side.”

OPINION

There’s no doubt that Gibbs-White has a bright future at the club and it’s wise to only use him as a substitute. However, with Wolves sitting nine points clear of the Championship, they probably will have the title wrapped up with games to spare. After Wolves have secured the title, there’s no reason why the teenager couldn’t start the final league games of the season. While it’s true he will be better once he has a full pre-season under his belt, Wolves need to make the most of the opportunity to play in the Championship when nothing is at stake. It’s a great chance to give young talent vital experience. Especially as Wolves will likely be featuring in the Premier League next season, which will be a harder league for Gibbs-White to hone his craft in.
