Leeds United have been strongly linked with a January pursuit of Peterborough United goal machine Jack Marriott – and the Elland Road faithful have urged their club to push through the deal.

The Mirror reported on Monday that Leeds and their Championship rivals Hull City lead the chase to land the striker, 23, who scored twice against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Saturday to take his tally for the season to 23 goals in 36 games.

It is said that it will take a fee of around £3million to prise Marriott from Peterborough, although chairman Darragh MacAnthony subsequently claimed on Twitter that his star player’s valuation is way higher than that.

Leeds fans are excited at their club pursuing such a clearly in-form player, with his outstanding season statistics putting him second among English goalscorers across all four divisions only to Harry Kane.

Signing such a goal machine this month would be a stunning move, especially as it would be likely to cost at least £5million, the sort of sum Leeds have not paid for any player for a decade-and-a-half.

One urged their club to make it a “dream January” by adding Marriott and his attacking midfielder teammate Marcus Maddison to reportedly imminent new arrival Laurens De Bock, the Belgian left-back.
