Tottenham are primed to win the race for defender Ben Wilmot from League Two club Stevenage, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims in its print edition (Page 68, 13th January) that Spurs look set to land the in-demand 18-year-old.

It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are going to beat off Premier League rivals Liverpool and Southampton for his signature.

Wilmot has made just four senior appearances for Stevenage, but is a highly-rated centre-back that has caught the Spurs radar.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs should always be keen to bring in young talents and they will hope Wilmot is a hidden gem from the lower leagues.

The defender has very small experience even at the age of 18, but the fact that Premier League clubs have been sniffing around him shows the potential.

Pochettino has made a knack of aiding the development of young English players with Harry Kane and Dele Alli brilliant examples, which is why the signing of unknown Wilmot is an exciting one.
