Liverpool fans were left devastated on social media as news broke that Virgil van Dijk was likely to miss their clash against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Liverpool Echo broke the news that the defender had a tight hamstring and that the Reds were unlikely to risk him against the league leaders.
The same report shared that Dejan Lovren was expected to partner Joel Matip in the center of defence against Manchester City with van Dijk absent.
Van Dijk joined Liverpool on the 1st of January when the transfer window opened, after a £75million deal with Southampton was agreed for the defender at the end of December.
The 26-year-old was set to make his first league appearance for Liverpool on Sunday, but now his league debut looks likely to be in the Reds’ next outing against Swansea City.
The defender made his first Reds appearance in the FA Cup victory against Everton and had a memorable debut as he scored the winner to send Liverpool through to the fourth round.
Despite only featuring once for the Reds so far, Liverpool fans were already struggling at the thought of seeing their side play without him.
One supporter shared that their confidence had just hit rock bottom because of the news, with another fan suggesting that the club must be cursed.

This is heartbreaking. Klavan over Lovren without a doubt. None of us want to swear and curse at Lovren so save us the trouble https://t.co/EYH0Ceruxc
