Celtic are closing in on an 18-month loan deal for Chelsea attacker Charly Musonda as he prepares to jet into Glasgow on Monday, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that the 21-year-old will fly to Scotland at some stage today (Monday) to compete his temporary move to Parkhead.

It is understood that the Bhoys appear to have won the race for the dazzling playmaker ahead of Spanish club Leganes, Italian outfit Roma and Championship side Nottingham Forest.

The report details that the Scottish champions will pay a seven-figure loan sum for the Belgian as they look set to take him on loan for 18 months.

Brendan Rodgers is believed to be a long-term admirer of Musonda and attempted to land him in the summer transfer window.

The youngster even met with Rodgers last season and watched Celtic in action against St Johnstone.

Good move for Celtic?

Celtic fans have had to be patient for January signings, but it will be worth it if they get a deal for Musonda over the line.

Many Chelsea fans are amazed that the attacking midfielder has not got more first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge and Rodgers’ side are poised to pick up one of the best rising stars around.

He has unbelievable potential that Rodgers should be able to tap into and his blistering pace, plus skilful dribbling should help light up Parkhead.

Celtic do already have an eye-catching attack at their disposal, but Musonda has the potential to make it even better and signing him for the next 18 months could turn out to top the Patrick Roberts deal.
